The Freckle Commandments

Preventing Freckles

Preventing Freckles

Freckles can actually be prevented. If you are a person prone to freckles, the best way to avoid freckles is by wearing protective sunscreen in order not to stimulate the skin to produce darker pigments. If you are undergoing treatment, it is recommended that you stay indoors during sunny days as the outdoor heat can also contribute to discoloration and recurring freckles, which in turn are harder to treat.

Avoid going out during peak sun hours, between 10:00 AM and 04:00 PM. This timeframe is when the sun shines the hottest, if not the brightest. You can go out either before 10:00 AM, or after 04:00 PM, when the sun is already preparing to set. Also, choose sunblock lotions which protect you from UVA and UVB rays-these products must contain ingredients such as: avobenzone, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.

There are some people whose freckles are hereditary. Thus they are advised to wear protective sunscreen whenever they go out in the sunshine, as they are more at risk to skin cancer due to sun exposure. Sunlight also aggravates the freckles and makes them look more prominent.

Try to wear protective makeup when going out. Use a hypoallergenic, sunscreen concealer to hide your freckles and keep them invisible whiles your outdoors. This not only makes your freckles invisible, but also protects the spots from getting hit by sunshine.

Better check your drugs and medications, as some of them may have produced either immunity or irritation on your skin such that they no longer are effective. When used constantly, these medications usually wane their effect on your skin, which may result to adverse effects as well. If you think you are starting to get irritated with the current medication you are taking, better consult your dermatologist so you know what to do.

Before purchasing new anti-freckle creams, have them reviewed by your dermatologist first. Your doctor may not approve of some of these creams because they can cause allergies or side effects on your skin type, and that is something you have to avoid.
